Shri Born 6 months ago and he also started showing interest in food so I started thinking of Annaprasana. We are going to celebrate it at the Temple. Annaprasana is the day when we start feeding solids to the baby. Generally this is done at Home or at the Temple during auspicious time.
For baby boy this is done on 6 months 6 days (Even days) and for baby girl should be on odd months. Per astrology we should calculate the months and dates per Hindu calendar.
List of items needed for Annaprasana:
1. Silver or steel Bowl
2. Silver or steel glass
3. Silver or steel spoon
4. Book
5. Pen
6. Any Fruit
7. Gold
8. Money
9. Some play items
10. Flowers
&
Akshinthalu (Rice mixed with Turmeric)
Paramannam (Must have item)

Paramannam Recipe:
Ingredients::
·
Moong dal: 1 Cup
·
Rice: 1 Cup
·
Jaggery: 2 Cups
·
Milk: 1 Cup
·
Ghee 2 tsp
Process:
·
Soak rice and dal separately for 2
hours
·
Fry the soacked rice and dal in
ghee separately.
·
Cook dal and rice separately till they are soft
·
Once Rice is cooked, add milk and Jaggery and cook on low
flame till it is mixed well
·
Once they are mixed well add dal and cook on low flame till
they are soft enough
·
Add ghee and turn off the stove
Annaprasana Process and Pooja: The following is what we have performed. Please talk to the priest and get more details.
1. Perform Ganesh pooja
2. Annapasana Sankalpam:
‘I am performing this sanskar of Annaprashan to
win the grace of The Supreme Lord for the destruction of defects acquired by
the intake of faeces by the baby when in the mother’s womb, the acquisition of
pure food, etc., the acquisition of divine splendour (effulgence), the perfect
development of the organs, longevity and to overcome the sins committed by the
foetus. I am performing the worship of Lord Ganesh and the Matruka deities, Svastivachan,
and Nandishraddha along with it
3. Recite Gothra,
Name, Nakshatra and Rasi and pray that you are feeding the
child
Om Bhoo:
Om Bhuva:
Om Suva:
Om Boo; Bhuva Suva :
Recite this the Child’s Name.
Feed 3 times with a Golden Ring in Your
hand. (Child father did this first time)
Then ask the other Family members/Guests to feed the baby and bless him/her.
After Annaprasana perform the fun Game.
Annaprasana, or Annaprashan, is a Hindu sanskar or tradition, a ceremony when a baby gets his or her first taste of solid food. First Rice feeding ceremony for baby takes place when a baby is ready to transition to solid foods – normally between six months to a year.

Annaprasana ceremony is extremely important and is a ritual when the baby is fed for the first time with solid food. Usually it is just rice or rice with daal topped with ghee and/or jaggery that is freshly prepared and given to the baby on an auspicious day that falls between the 6th and 12th month of his or her birth.
